Program Overview

Bright Horizon Employment Center (BHEC) is more than a program– it’s a movement toward inclusion, purpose, and possibility. Located in Somerset, NJ. BHEC is a pioneering pre-vocational training and supported employment initiative crafted to unlock the potential of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

At BHEC, we equip our participants with the tools, confidence, and real-world experience they need to thrive in the workforce and beyond. Through dynamic skill-building workshops, immersive workplace simulations, and personalized career coaching, our participants don't just learn– they transform.

Mission Statement

To empower individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through inclusive opportunities, skill-building, and support that foster independence and meaningful employment.

Target Population

  • Adults (21+) with intellectual and developmental disabilities
  • Individuals with low, moderate or high levels of independence
  • Participants approved through DDD and authorized for Supported Employment and/or Career Planning Services.

Eligibility & Enrollment

  • Participants must be DDD eligible with an approved NJISP
  • Referrals accepted from support coordinators, families, and agencies
  • Intake includes:
    ○ ISP & assessment review
    ○ Skills interest survey
    ○ Meet-and-greet with staff
    ○ Tour of facility
    ○ Optional Trial Day

Core Services

Pre-Vocational Training

Participants engage in structured, skill-based workshops.

Career Exploration

We assist individuals in discovering their interests and strengths.

Job Simulation and Vocational Labs

BHEC features mock workstations and simulation areas where individuals can safely practice tasks.

Supported Employment

Participants ready to pursue work in the community.

Life Skills and Independent Living

To support overall independence, BHEC integrates weekly life skills workshops.

Program Structure

  • Monday–Friday, 10:00AM–4:00PM
  • Settings: Structured day program with rotating activities and personalized schedules
  • Participants: Individuals with IDD, moderate to high functioning, ages 21+
  • Staff Ratio: Typically 1:3 or as outlined by individual service plans (ISP)
  • Transportation: Provided or arranged based on need and location
  • Location: 3rd Floor, 80 Cottontail Lane, Somerset, NJ

Facility Features

  • Dedicated classroom and training spaces
  • Private rooms for coaching and assessments
  • Break room and lunch space
  • Elevator and ADA-accessible restrooms
  • Office and administrative support area

Transportation

  • Transportation may be coordinated through contracted providers or family/agency arrangements
  • Staff support available for travel training as needed

Staffing & Supervision

  • Program Director: Gigi Bautista-Herrera
  • On-site Vocational Coaches & Life Skills Instructors and Supervisor
  • Staff-to-client ratio: 1:3 (may vary based on ISP needs)
  • All staff are trained in person-centered planning, safety protocols, and DDD compliance
